Zündapp-Werke GmbH was founded in 1916 by Fritz Ludwig Neumeyer under the name ZÜNDer-APParatebau-Gesellschaft mbH. Since 1921, the company has been involved in motorcycle construction and engine building. In the 1930s and 1940s, Zündapp became one of the five largest and most important motorcycle factories in Europe.
