Carburetors can be differentiated in several ways. Mainly according to the direction of the air flow, e.g. flat and downdraft carburettors, according to the type of flow regulation, e.g. flat and piston slide or throttle valve, and according to the number of mixing chambers, e.g. single and twin carburettors.

The PHVA and PHVB carburetors are the most common models in the 50cc class. Almost every Piaggio engine is equipped with them. With the classic design and a wide range of equipment options, such as various throttle cable and choke variants, these models are extremely variable.
