The spark plug produces a spark to ignite the mixture. This is produced at one or more ground electrodes, which are located on the thread of the spark plug. Inside is the necessary counterpart - the center electrode. Both are separated from each other by the white ceramic insulator. The spark must jump from the ground electrode to the center electrode to generate enough heat for ignition.
